I remember my favorite mission being American #5 or so, where you had to secure a relic within Olympus Mons on Mars from the Soviet forces, using special howitzer vehicles and that was also when you had the Armory introduced, I believe. Not only was there an American campaign, but a Soviet one as well. You group units into control groups, and give orders such as to defend, attack, hunt (autonomously explore and search for enemies), etcetera. it's a hybrid combo of action and realtime strategy. The gameplay comes in with powerups, multiple loadouts (customizable via the Armory structure), realtime strategy with base placement + construction, resource collection, your Recycler and its Scavengers for initial materials and vehicles. The first mission took place on the moon, where you were deployed into your hovertank ("Grizzly") and setup to practice flying on planetoid surfaces. and the Soviets, where they discovered a unique resource called biometal which enabled sentient material with which to construct space structures, ships, tanks, weapons, and all sorts of fun.
There was Battlezone I, which gave an epic story behind the space race between the U.S. There is still a small community:, and a previous developer has kept it alive and it's available for free: I would really enjoy hearing about it if anyone else ever played it! Apart from weaponry, some of the later levels equip the player with a jet pack, allowing flight over moderate distances. Other unusual devices include a miniature black hole, a gas grenade that turns enemies against each other, and a device that temporarily reverses gravity, causing enemies to 'fall' into the sky and literally turning the world upside-down before the device shuts down, returning gravity to normal and returning affected enemies to earth, killing them by the fall. Playable weaponry and equipment in Armed and Dangerous is a mix of shooter staples, including bolt-action and sniper rifles, submachine guns and rocket launchers, but also more unusual fare like the 'Land Shark Gun', which fires into the ground a rapidly maturing infant Land Shark, a creature that 'swims' through the earth, seeking out and devouring enemies. The game is played mostly on foot, with most levels incorporating usable gun emplacements, although there are some base defense levels where the player is inside a movable gun turret mounted on rails on top of a defensive wall these levels are played in first-person.
